This seems to have been a friendly or perhaps a training match, pitting the strong Solingen team against Hungary’s finest. The format seems to have been rather unusual, with the first eight board being split up in pairs to play mini Scheveningen tournaments and the remaining boards being played as usual. I have tried to make this clear in the table above using colours.

The board results are given [2], which quotes Magyar Sakkélet. in [1], O’Kelly gives one of his games as well as some organisational details. For example, he states that the tempo was 50 moves in 2h30′, and that his game against Honfi was played in February 11th. It stands to reason, then, that the second round was played on the 12th.

Wanted

  • O’Kelly’s second game.
