There were by now two groups in the second division of the interclubs, but there was only a single promotion spot. Therefore, the winners of the two groups had to play a play-off match on neutral ground to determine who could play in first division next year.
The Brussels side came with a strong Swiss player on board 1, but they only managed to draw the match. In fact, Eupen promoted because their victories fell on higher boards.
