There was hardly any doubt that Eupen, with its roster of Grandmasters from Germany and Russia, would win with a large lead. The battle for second place was much more tense. In the end, OSK edged out Ghent. Note that OSK was nominally a club from Tessenderlo, but they were playing in Geel, two municipalities over. The fight against relegation was also very close. The demotion of the Antwerp team was mainly due to some rather weak lineups in the first few rounds. CRÉ Brussels and Jean Jaurès promoted to first division.

[1] gives full results and a bunch of games from the first division. It doesn’t say in which round which games were played, but it does give the team each player was representing. Together with round-by-round results given in [2] and [5], this allowed me to deduce the correct rounds. [5] gives quite a few more games, although a couple are incomplete. I’m also grateful to Mr. Van Herck, who kindly sent me his own games. [2], [3], and [4] give a whole bunch of games from the second division. I have included those, too, since the average level in second division was quite high, including many FIDÉ-rated players. Even most of the other ones were at least at expert level.

Note that e.g. 365chess.com has a bunch of games purportedly from this edition of the interclubs, but their game file is highly suspicious. There are definitely wrong names, dates, and sites, but I’m also very sceptic that some games were really played in this competition. I have therefore not included those games here.

Wanted

  • Many games.
  • The detailed results.
