According to [1], Laigle and Michaëls had already played a match the previous year in Valenciennes which was won by Michaëls. This rematch was played in Brussels in the Café de l’Europe. Note that at the time this match was played, the convention that white had the first move was not in use yet. Instead, Laigle played white in all games and had the first move in the odd-numbered games. (I have renormalised this for the .pgn, that is, white always has the first move in the .pgn.) The match was played for seven won games.
Wanted
- The second game. According to Le Palamède, Laigle put his queen en prise in less than 10 moves and resigned shortly thereafter – I’m afraid this makes it unlikely that the game will turn up.
- Several moves from games 9 and 11 are missing. In game 8 one move is missing.
- Any information about the first Michaëls vs. Laigle match
