The Belgian team was exceptionally weak: only one of the players had even played in the Belgian championship and the last couple of boards had hardly any experience against strong opposition. Belgium’s victory in the first round, then, came as a big surprise. However, it was followed by two resounding defeats and the expected last place. The tempo was apparently 50 moves in 2:30′.
