This tournament was held in three phases over three weekends, on Saturday at 14:00 and on Sunday from 8:00 to 12:30 and from 15:30 to 20:00. It was organised at the Free University of Brussels (VUB) by the university’s chess club.

The championship was in the end won by the youngest participant, Jan Rooze. The best six players were qualified to play in the Student’s olimpiad, which gave additional interest to the consolation final. Somehow, probably after a play-off, Van Soom was eliminated. However, as both  Rooze and Wostyn ended up not playing, Van Soom could still go to Romania. I have only a single game. I don’t know whether it came from the consolation final or from a possible play-off.

Wanted

  • Almost all of the games.
  • The crosstables for preliminaries A and D.
  • Some first names.
