This tournament was organised in the Sunparks holiday centre in Mol during the Easter holidays. To give the best Belgian juniors some much-needed international experience, four countries were invited to send one of their stronger junior players. Perhaps surprisingly, the Belgians very much held their own. The two Walloon players, on the other hand, found themselves outclassed.

[1] gives the final standings for all groups. Mr. Talon kindly sent me all of the games from the elite group, except two of Docx’ games. These, however, I found in [3]. They match the final standings mentioned in [1] perfectly. Sadly, I have no games at all from the lower sections.

Category Boys Girls
Elite Claesen, Jeroen
-20 Lefever, Dimitri
-18 Demoulin, Joachim Storme, Stien
-16 De Wachter, Mathias Duprez, P
-14 Gülbaş, Cemil Stevens, Nathalie*
-12 Verduyn, Philippe Van Steenwinckel, Iris
-10 Gregoir, Christophe Brion, Sophie

*: [1] claims J Schrevens became girls’ champion, but Jelle Schrevens was a boy. Stevens ended up playing in the world championship; I suspect she was national champion.

Wanted

  • The crosstables and games from the lower sections.
