This tournament was held in the Salle Jumet Banquet in Jumet, a suburb of Charleroi.  The open tournament started on 9/7. The tempo was 40 moves in 2 hour, followed by 20 moves per hour. Here is how the players for the experts section were selected:

  • the first four players from the previous championship (Cools, Le Quang, Vanderwaeren and Boeykens; the latter apparently declined),
  • three players chosen by the VSF.  These would probably have been the first three from the Flemish championship: Vanderwaeren, Daels and Mohandesi. Since Vanderwaeren was already classified and apparently Daels declined, Schuermans and Soetewey were selected.
  • two players chosen by the FEFB. Le Quang had won the FEFB championship. Since he was already selected, Vandevoort and Denayer (who had tied for 2nd place) were sent instead.
  • one player selected by the SVDB. I guess this might have been Wislez?
  • the first two players from the previous A class tournament (Ahn and Claesen).

The rest were chosen from the top of the most recent national rating list. For the A class, the selection was as follows:

  • the first two players from the national junior championship.
  • one other player chosen by the national junior coordinator.
  • the winner of the previous open championship (Goossens).
  • one player chosen by each of the sub-federations (VSF, FEFB, SVDB).

Again, the rest were chosen from the top of the most recent national rating list. The previous information comes from [1]. [2] gives the crosstables. [1], [3], and [5] give a few games, while the main bulk comes from [4].
