At the start, O’Kelly and Dyner took the lead, with Dunkelblum short behind. When O’Kelly led a surprising defeat against Shernetsky in round six, the championship was more decided: he would only score half a point more from the last three rounds, while Dyner coasted to victory. However, as Dyner was Polish, the title of Belgian champion was awarded to Dunkelblum who had recently obtained the Belgian nationality.
According to an announcement in [1], rounds 4, 5, 6, and 9 were to be played in the playing hall of the Antwerp Chess Club at Eiermarkt 34. The other rounds took place in the rooms of Het Schaakbord at Korte Nieuwstraat 44. The games were played daily from 17:30 to 23:30. Adjourned games were to be resumed at 10:00 the next morning. On Sunday, the games started at 15:00. According to [2], Van Seters, Lipsky, Shernetsky, and Dyner didn’t have the Belgian nationality and were therefore ineligible for the title of Belgian champion.
[1] announces a first prize of 300 francs and a second prize of 200 francs. However, after the tournament it mentions a first prize of 300 francs for Dyner, 200 francs for Dunkelblum, and 100 francs for Van Seters. The same source claims that Van Seters “will undoubtedly” win a 50 francs brilliancy prize for his game against O’Kelly. Whether that happened — indeed, whether that prize was ever awarded — I don’t know. According to [2], there was a brilliancy prize offered by the Journal des Maîtres; a chess magazine that folded before this tournament was over after only two issues. The full set of game was published in [3].
