This was pretty much Cornelis’ only foray abroad – and a nice success. The games come from [1]. We have to go very far back to find another international tournament with two Belgian on the first places. Cornelis send me the following explanation for Bouwmeester’s retirement: Bouwmeester had agreed with the organisers to play some games at his home; the pastor of Eersel was to drive the players there. During one of these trips, his car broke down and when he left the car, he was hit and killed by another car. Bouwmeester decided to not play on.
