On September 1st, 1963, nine qualification groups started for this unofficial European team championship. Surprisingly, Belgium qualified easily for the final, which started on December 15th, 1966. Here, however, the Belgians were outclassed. Some way during the tournament, Leroy was replaced by De Groof. Some players I think were not replaced: [2] gives all the games by Lithuanian players, except for some from board 6 and 7.

[1] gives the crosstable for the preliminary section. The individual results for the preliminary were kindly provided to me by Mr. Pérez Rodríguez, from [5]. [2] gives the board-by-board crosstables as well as the total one for the final, but the sum for the match between East Germany and RSFSR [the Russian correspondence chess federation] doesn’t add up. Reason for this is that the game between Rüster and Kirjanov is given as 0-0. Was this a double forfait? Is the result in [2] wrong? Or was the game simply abandoned as irrelevant? I don’t know.

The names given in [3] are Lithuanianised; I tried to anglicize them, but might have failed. According to [1], IMC norms could be scored in the final by getting 5½/8 on boards 1-3, 6/8 on boards 4-6, 6½/8 on boards 7-9, or 7/8 on boards 10-12. The game Ležák-Van Vijve won the EB/BS beauty prize for 1966. [1], [2], and [3] all have some games. In [4], Yudovich gives a game he lost against a “Čenrotaj”. I suspect this might the remnants of the name Henrotay, after being transcribed into Russian and back.
