[1] has all the games, from which the crosstables were extracted. They are compatible with the results as given in [2], but many of the names are wrong or incomplete. For example, the name of the Swedish participant is given as Per Broden there, but this player was only born in 1956. [2] gives first names for all players as, well as the schedule for the preliminaries. It also mentions that there was a rest day on July 28 and that the final round was on August 7. Assuming one round was played per day, this allows for the reconstruction of the full schedule.
The tournament was played in Residence Roxy, Meir 68. The representatives of the top three countries from the last olimpiad (Spassky, Schweber, and Čirić) were seeded in different qualification groups, the rest was determined by drawing of lots. The games were played from 14:00 to 19:00 every day, with adjourned games played at 9:00 the next day. The three best players in each group and the best-scoring fourth qualified for the A-final. Still according to [2], it was suggested to not allow draw offers in less than twenty moves but, after consultation with a.o. Averbakh, Neikirkh, and Cherta Clos, this idea was rejected.
Spassky’s victory was anything but a surprise: not only was he the Soviet representative, but he also had considerable international experience and had already been awarded the IM title. Curiously, the drawing of lots gave him the last number in both the qualification group and the final. The two Belgian representatives, who had qualified via the Belgian junior championship, did not do very well: both ended in the middle of the pack in the consolation final, after unremarkable tournaments.
