Around this time, Belgian Meeussen lived in Luxembourg, were he was part of the national subtop for some time. This time, he even qualified for the final of the Luxembourgian championship, together with the cream of the national team. He kept himself quite well.

The tournament was organised by the Dommeldingen chess club in the cultural centre of Eich, a neighbourhood in Luxembourg and formerly an independent community. The tempo was 2:30 for 40 moves. Kirsch was a late replacement for Jean Weis.
