This match was organised by the chess club of Axel in cultural centre De Halle. The players were divided in groups of two Dutch and two Belgian players that played a very small Scheveningen tournament on a single day. The first game was played from 10:00 to 14:00, the second one from 15:00 to 19:00. In the first round, the Ghent players all had white, in the second one they all had black. Mayor van Dijke of Axel made the ceremonial first move (1.c4) in the Willems — Gommers game. The Dutch won both rounds with 7½-12½, but the Belgians did quite well on the top boards.
