Play-off for promotion: SK Moretus Hoboken III – Geelse SK II: 2-2

This traditional tournament was the team competition of the league of Antwerp. For three weeks there was one encou1nter per week, then the fourth week was free. The game were played in the host club’s rooms on its usual club evening, the sole exception being the first round, in which all teams from all divisions played together in Geel on Friday, 14 January. The tempo was 40 moves in 2 hours followed by 20 moves per hour with the possibility of adjournment. The bottom two teams from the first three divisions were relegated one division, while the winners of the lower five division were promoted one division. As this leaves one free spot in second division, the runner-ups from 3A and 3B played a play-off match. This ended in 2-2. The Geelse SK promoted because it got its points on higher boards.

My main source is [1]; the club magazine of the Borgerhoutse SK. It gives the full crosstables in all divisions, which I have reproduced above. It also gives a couple of games and the detailed results of the Borgerhoutse SK. [2] also gives a few games. It does not give the rounds or dates. These I have added using the standard Berger tables for pairings and the information mentioned above about the schedule. I am not one hundred percent sure that I got the club evenings right for all clubs. As a consequence, the dates may be off by a couple of days. [3] gives quite a few more games.

Note that the individual results below are based on the — very much partial — information I have. For quite a few teams, I have no more than the results of one match. Games won by forfeit are not included. The first rating column gives the national ratings, the second one (where present) the FIDÉ ratings. Dzhumaev’s national rating seems surprisingly low. Is it wrong? Or did he have some unusually bad reuslts in Belgium?
