Limbos left the tournament after a bereavement. Devos couldn’t get a prolongation of his military leave and had to forfeit his last three games. Barzin scored a somewhat surprising victory, but he did so in the absence of many of the country’s top players: Colle, Koltanowski, Soultanbeieff, Dunkelblum – all absent.
