Using the fact that many strong players were in the country at the occasion of the olimpiad, an important international tournament was organised in Yugoslavia. According to [2], which also gives the exact dates for the games, the arbiter was Hans Kmoch, the tempo was 40 moves in 150′ followed by 16 moves per 60′, and the venue was the Toplice hotel in Bled.
After a defeat in the second round from a dubious opening, O’Kelly did very well and finished 3rd in the end, which netter him 17500 dinars. Najdorf, who won convincingly, earned 25000. Rabar fell ill during the tournament and had to withdraw. The games are widely available; I took them from [1].
